The body of a stranger is discovered on the banks of the Rhine. The dead man has a bullet hole in his chest and face. The work of a professional killer. But who is he working for? And who is the dead man?
At the same time, another case keeps Crinelli in suspense: a war between the Russian and Italian mafia. Crinelli wants to bust a drug deal and see the perpetrators behind bars. At first everything goes according to plan, but then a mysterious group photo is discovered in one of the arrested drug boss’s houses, and it doesn’t belong there at all.
Crinelli suspects there is a connection between the body on the Rhine and the photo. But when he sets out in search of the mysterious murderer, the trail takes him direct to Calabria, the home of the Crinellis and the place from which his father escaped over night fifty years ago. He has to pursue a ruthless contract killer under the very eyes of the ’Nrangheta´ and is confronted with his own family history.
What initially appears to be a clear case of mafia warfare and contract killing turns out to be a journey of self-discovery for Crinelli. The case affects his family honour, jeopardises a great friendship and ultimately threatens his own life. And while Crinelli tries to fight his own demons, the killer always manages to stay just one step ahead of him.
