Of Beginnings and Ends. On the readability of the World.

This volume collects the poetics lectures held by Uwe Timm in the legendary Adorno auditorium at the Goethe University in Frankfurt in 2009.

"Along all literal and metaphysical levels of meaning, Timm set out in search of the “big bang” of literary creation, already established in the melodies of the first sentences, from which linguistic works of art pour forth, vividly capturing the realities in which man lives. Between the beginnings and the ends, Timm covered a broad range of subjects from the biblical book of Genesis and the revelation of John the Baptist via Goethe and Camus to Adelbert Stifter. He discussed the elements of poetic writing and embarked on fascinating journeys into his own works of fiction which, from this perspective, showed his openness, also to subsequent conjectures."
