The Invention of Curried Sausage

Translated into more than 15 languages

A wonderful love story set in Hamburg during the final days of the Second World War: Inspired by childhood memories, the narrator embarks on a search for the former owner of a snackbar in Hamburg. Eventually, he tracks down Lena Brücker, now at an advanced age and living in a carehome, where he listens to her reminisce about the happiest years of her life and the love affair with a young deserter, whom she hid in her home, leading to the invention of the famous German currywurst in late April 1945.
