99 Questions for...

“100 Questions for...,” the successful format used in the Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, was published in book form in 2004 and became a highly praised bestseller. It could have been left at that. But when von Uslar moved to Zeit Magazin, the old hit was reissued – and subtly refined. Von Uslar cut one question and streamlined his technique. The new approach: Enough with the rush, we’re going to take our time, let people finish speaking. The result: An intellectualized version of the rapid-fire format, reflected also in the choice of interviewees. More brains and high culture, less tabloid journalism.

Some examples include Hans-Magnus Enzensberger, Werner Herzog, David Hockney, Peer Steinbrück – as well as Diane Kruger, Jeff Bridges, Anna Netrebko, Marc Jacobs, Harry Belafonte, Michael Stipe and Mark Wahlberg.

Present throughout: quick-wittedness, repartee and the art of improvisation – skills no other interviewer has mastered quite like Moritz von Uslar. A pleasure to read – and chock full of information!

“Finally someone who doesn’t ask what he already knows.” – Martin Walser
