Women – who understands them? Daniel, thirty-something, has just been ditched by his girlfriend even though he did everything for her. His parents – former students of the 1968 movement – taught him to admire and respect women. What a great help to him at parties! - While the girls made out with the other boys in the corner, he admired and respected them. Well, there had to be somebody eating up all the party food.
To get over the separation, Daniel flies to Turkey where his best friend Mark is working as an entertainer in a club. A miracle occurs. The beautiful Aylin, the object of the entire club’s desires, falls for Daniel, the wimp. Daniel is in seventh heaven. But he soon returns to earth with a bump when, back in Germany, he is introduced to Aylin’s extended family. Should he help his parents-in-law-to-be wash up the dishes? Laugh at jokes about Greeks? And what should he do when he’s invited to a men’s cafe and then to a Turkish disco?
In Moritz Netenjakob’s fast-paced comic novel, one punch line follows the next. What do women really want? he asks. Or: What should you do if you want to treat the woman of your dreams respectfully but not be considered a sissy by her Turkish relatives?
