Couch Surfing on the Atlantic

Timo Peters doesn’t own a boat, has virtually no experience sailing and barely any money. What he does have is the crazy idea of crossing the Atlantic. In Gibraltar he gets lucky: an opportunity to tag along with someone to the Canaries! There, he finds the next boat to hitch a ride on and, after a stop on the Cape Verde islands and countless dramatic, wonderful and unforgettable experiences, he finally reaches South America. And finds the love of his life.

En route, Timo Peters dives into the strange community of people who sail around the world. He drinks champagne with millionaires and listens to the tales of proud captains. There are plenty of dreamers, hippies and gamblers drifting around between the tiny islands in the middle of nowhere – all of whom have one thing in common: They want to escape from everyday life and set out in search of truly great freedom.
