The Gentle Yoke of Excellence

Caroline von Wolzogen, born 1763, is an author and member of the Weimar Circle of Intellectuals. When she met Friedrich Schiller, he was a penniless poet. They discover they are kindred spirits and come closer to each other. Nevertheless, Schiller marries Caroline's younger sister Lotte. After his early death, Caroline writes a biography about her brother-in-law. What she had to keep quiet about in her biography, however, is told in this book.

"Feyl lends her voice to a sympathetic, courageous woman - in a successful balance between intimate family chronicle and ironic distance to the cult of genius." Der Standard
