Summer Sisters

Four grown-up sisters who love and hate each other are called together by their capricious mother for a weekend together on the Dutch coast of the North Sea. With mixed feelings, the sisters arrive in the picturesque village of Bergen. Why is their mother calling them together? Holland was heaven for the four sisters when they were little. They spent happy vacations in the triangle between the campsite, village, and beach. The idyll came to an abrupt end when their father died there in a car accident twenty years ago.

At the family reunion, cracks in the family structure begin to show: The sisters’ mother, Henriette Thalberg, judges everything her children do. The only one she lets off lightly is Doro, her eldest daughter, a successful costume designer. Yella, on the other hand, a mother of two, can’t seem to do anything right by her mother. And then there are the twin sisters Esther and Helen, one elfin and dreamy, the other soberly pragmatic. Each of them bring their secrets with them to Bergen – but their mother is the one with the biggest secret of all up her sleeve.
