Saying No

On July 20, 1944, My Parents and Personal Responsibility Today

  • A resonant wake-up call against forgetting and an urgent plea for vigilance

In the face of democracy's new threats - fueled by racism and xenophobia Matthias Brandt steps forward politically. This book is based on a powerful speech he delivered in 2025 at the Berlin-Plötzensee Memorial Center, commemorating the resistance fighters of July 20, 1944 - a group that included his own parents.

The current resurgence of right-wing extremism served as the deciding factor for Brandt to publish this work. He reflects on the courage and motives of the July 20 conspirators and other resistance fighters, examining their actions from a modern perspective and questioning what consequences history demands of us today.
