Banksy and the Blind Spot

  • A detective novel about the most famous phantom of the contemporary art world
  • A cleverly constructed case full of pitfalls about the absurd mechanisms of the art market and the question of what is real

What is up with the strange rat graffiti that is suddenly appearing everywhere around Munich? The press is quick to jump to a conclusion: Banksy, the world-famous art phantom, is in town. Various sides are trying to profit from this, and the Von Schleewitz Art Detective Agency is investigating to find out what game is being played at here.

Suddenly, homeowners are no longer getting rid of the graffiti but are removing the spray-painted masonry to sell it to the highest bidders at art auctions. After all, we’re talking about real Banksys here. Or are we? Even though the artist’s agency denies that the graffiti is authentic, rich collectors are waging veritable bidding wars for the works by the Munich Banksy.

The team of investigators keeps finding itself teetering on new precipices. They get caught up in the conflict over guerrilla art and merciless art marketing – and are forced to realize that more than just the truth is falling by the wayside in the course of their investigation.
