Marion Dönhoff

The famous journalist Marion Gräfin Dönhoff would have celebrated her 100th birthday on 2nd December 2009. Reason enough to publish Alice Schwarzer’s highly praised biography about the former publisher and editor-in-chief of the »Zeit« in a revised paperback edition with an updated foreword.

Two journalists as different as can be, seemingly – and who nevertheless know about the features they have in common deep inside. In 1987, the publisher of EMMA wrote the first portrait of the editor of the »Zeit« for her newspaper. Nine years later she wrote the first biography about Dönhoff. This was preceded by many conversations, travelling together and intense research in the inner circle of Dönhoff’s life.

The result is a biography which captures both the journalist and the woman. Alice Schwarzer takes the »Duchess« down from her pedestal and shows us surprising aspects of a lively person. She comes very close to the inaccessible woman without ever stepping on her toes.
