Talking Jazz

Jazz is back: The 2004 release of the CD “That Summer“ by the jazz trumpeter Till Brönner heralded a minor miracle: For the first time in over 20 years, a German jazz album had made it into the Top 20 of the sales lists.

With his music, Till Brönner has since gone on to make an indelible contribution to the renaissance of jazz in Germany. So diverse and unconventional are his musical activities, that he has also become one of the pre-eminent figures on the international music scene: Since the release of his debut album “Generation of Jazz“ in 1993 through to “Oceana“ in 2006, he has established himself as Germany’s most popular jazz musician, and with “Rio“ demonstrated his consummate mastery of the Brazilian Bossa nova. He played together with jazz icons such as Dave Brubeck and Klaus Doldinger, and collaborated with Carla Bruni, Sérgio Mendes, Annie Lennox and the 12 Cellists from the Berlin Philharmonic.

But alongside the musician there is also Till Brönner, the teacher and musicologist: As a guest lecturer, he also teaches jazz, regularly stages “Talkin’ Jazz“ events and holds a post as professor for Jazz, Rock and Pop at the Dresden Academy of Music.
