Klaus Modick on Leonard Cohen

Around 1968, Lukas’ and Harry’s two-man band is playing small night clubs in provincial Germany, performing Beatles, Kinks and Donovan covers, and thinking to themselves: This is as good as it gets. Until, one night, Lukas hears Leonard Cohen’s “Suzanne” on the radio. He can’t remember either the title or performer’s name. But the flirtatious Gitte and experienced Julia will help him in his quest to find this one life-changing record. Ten years later, Lukas heads off to Nowhere, with only Cohen’spoems in his luggage. He ends up on a Greek island where he meets the mysterious Danish woman Meret. But, in the end, neither Gitte, Julia nor Meret remain – only Leonard Cohen. Forever.
