Tristesse Renesse. Revisiting the Places of Our Childhood Holidays

Shortly before his 40th birthday, Nilz Bokelberg got cold feet: Have I lived enough? Are there things everyone should do before turning 40? What could be more obvious than buying an Interrail Pass and chugging across Europe? And since being 39½ also makes you a bit melancholy, Nilz Bokelberg decides to visit the places where he spent his vacations as a child – in November, no less. Tristesse royale, which, truth be told, he’s always found particularly fascinating. Places that are teeming with life almost all year round just sit there, tired and silent, in November. The perfect atmosphere for pondering life, travelling and everything else that matters. And, to catapult his musing to a higher level, Nilz leaves his cell phone and iPad at home, setting off across Europe with a folding map and analog camera. Join Nilz Bokelberg on his vacation on the 80s train and come along for this somewhat different journey!
