German-Southwestafrica, 1904. The beginning of a merciless colonial war waged by the German empire against the rebellious Herero and Nama. Leading the people who fight for their freedom is Jakob Morenga, a former miner.
Uwe Timm has composed a terrific historical novel about what happened in the today independent Namibia by skilfully interweaving historical documents and fictitious records.
